About my photos

I take some digital photos as a hobby.

I have boxes of prints from film, too, but as they're harder to digitize and more expensive to work from, my focus in recent years has been digital photography. I'm always trying to learn more, especially about using light to my advantage.

I almost never use my flash; one of the things you'll notice about my work is that I'm trying to capture interesting lighting that I see in the world around me. That may be sunlight, patterns of artificial light, or long exposures to stray photons bouncing around in the dark. In addition to that, my interests include close-up photography (to the best of my cameras' meager abilities) and lately I've been trying to get a handle on landscapes and geology, especially in the gorges around Ithaca but also in parks I travel to - I've been having some fun at Hawk Mountain in Pennsylvania, and I snapped a few good ones at Crater Lake in Oregon. This winter I may be able to stop by Joshua Tree National Park in California; if anything comes of that I'll definitely post it here.

Most of the photos in this section are taken with one of two cameras.
